Your safety when renting a car is our priority.

As the travel industry and its practices continue to be shaped by the ongoing pandemic, our car rental partners in New Zealand remain dedicated to taking the appropriate steps in adherence with government and health advice.

Updates from the Car Rental Providers


We have introduced updated processes and safety procedures for our rental locations. Our employees working in branch locations are following best practices recommended by leading health authorities. This includes frequently sanitising touchable surfaces with disinfectant throughout the day.

While we have always strived to provide our customers with clean vehicles, we’re committed to provide the cleanest vehicles in the industry. This has led to us providing ‘contactless’ rentals. Once a booking is made, Alamo will contact you via email and send you a pre-registration link. The link will allow you to provide your licence details, pre-pay your rental, and sign your rental agreement virtually. These initiatives help us avoid the spread of COVID-19 while providing you with great, efficient service.


To help protect our staff and customers, we are encouraging social distancing at all Apex locations. We are also encouraging regular hand washing, and the use of hand sanitizer where available. We have enhanced the robust cleaning techniques applied to our vehicles after each rental, paying special attention to common touch points, such as steering wheels, door handles, and other hard surfaces.

In addition, we are taking steps to ensure the welfare of our employees, by instructing employees to stay home if they feel unwell. Apex is closely monitoring the information shared by the World Health Organization concerning advice on how to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Avis and Budget

To help protect our staff and customers we are encouraging regular hand washing, and the use of hand sanitiser where available. Our thorough cleaning processes ensure that our vehicles are always at the highest standard for customers.

We have further enhanced our cleaning protocol, which includes using an industry-grade cleaning solution throughout our vehicles and paying particular attention to surfaces that people touch, such as steering wheels, door handles, key fobs, and dashboards. In addition, we are taking steps to ensure the welfare of our employees. This includes instructing employees who feel ill to stay home and consult their healthcare providers.

East Coast Car Rentals

Every high contact area in our offices, including counter surfaces and terminals, are cleaned with disinfectant every 2 hours, and the interiors of our rental cars are disinfected between every booking across all high-contact areas and surfaces. Hand sanitiser dispensers are available for all customers and employees. The interior of our Courtesy Shuttle Buses are also disinfected at least three times a day.

During this unprecedented time, the safety of our community, coworkers, and customers remains our top priority. That’s why we’ve implemented our Complete Clean Pledge. While we’ve always had a very formal training process in place that instructs all employees on the proper cleaning of a vehicle, employees are now being trained to implement new and more comprehensive mandates that include enhanced cleaning guidance for vehicles, shuttles and branch locations, as well as social distancing practices.

Each of our vehicles is thoroughly cleaned between every rental and backed with the Complete Clean Pledge. This includes washing, vacuuming, general wipe down, and sanitising with a disinfectant that meets leading health authority requirements, with particular attention to more than 20+ high-touch points. We also have measures in place to immediately isolate and quarantine any vehicle if needed.


Your safety, as well as the safety of our people, is our #1 priority!

All counter tops and equipment (such as tablets, pens and credit card machines) will be cleaned and sanitised after serving each customer. We’re also introducing Plexiglass windows with the intention of reducing contact.

Stringent cleaning processes using disinfecting agents is being carried out between each rental, with specific attention given to the gear shift, glove box, seat belts, internal and external handles, the dashboard (including all dials and buttons), steering wheel and indicators, rear view mirror, and car keys. Child seats and GPS units are also being cleaned to strict guidelines.

Our app-based, contactless rental process continues to be the big focus for us. Our focus on technology, and our dedication to branch and vehicle cleanliness, will ensure that we continue to keep you, our staff, and the community safe.


The safety of our staff and customers is a priority to Hertz. Like everyone, we're adapting to the current COVID-19 situation and observing all national and international measures to minimise the spread of the virus.

Before we rent any vehicle, they are cleaned and disinfected to follow CDC guidelines with our 15-point cleaning process. We use our Hertz Total Disinfectant and seal the vehicle for your protection, which includes an exterior wash, a full wipe-down of interior surfaces, checking and cleaning of compartments, and odour removal.

Across all Hertz locations, we are continually sanitising our rental counters and customer touch points. We are also doing this in our customer return areas. As we carry out these additional cleaning measures, we apologise for any inconvenience or delays you may experience.


We know that the current situation raises uncertainty among our customers, however, your well-being and safety is our top priority.

We are constantly monitoring the situation and making decisions with a specially-established coordination center alongside the health authorities. We are taking measures to prevent the potential spread of the COVID-19, offering the best possible protection for our customers, employees, and partners. Our Sixt network remains operational.
