Driving tips in Christchurch Airport

If you are travelling in a group, pooling resources and sharing a car can be a significant saving. Once you have your car, you are about a 20 minute drive to the city centre. A few travellers who go to the South Island of New Zealand a lot of times also drive from Christchurch to Queenstown without stopping. The driving distance from Christchurch to Queenstown is about six hours (484 km) in a reliable car rental if you go via Lake Tekapo, Lindis Pass and Cromwell.

To drive from Christchurch to Lake Tekapo, normally it'd take you nearly three hours without taking any breaks. Then to drive from Lake Tekapo to Cromwell it would take you approximately two hours. Note that the route from Christchurch to Queenstown via Cromwell and State Highway 6 is not the only way. Another driving route you could take is via Wanaka, the Cardrona Valley, and Crown Range Road.
