The oldest fruit tree in New Zealand (it's a pear!) is still standing and bearing fruit, not far from the Stone Store, in turn New Zealand's oldest stone building. Nearby Mission House is the country's oldest wooden building still in use.

Attractions

The Rock Adventure Cruise

Address: 69 Marsden Rd, Paihia 0200

The best way to experience the Bay of Islands is from the water. There are plenty of cruises to choose from, but nothing quite 'The Rock.' Join their fun crew for a 22-hour experience. You'll get to drop a line off the boat, and attempt to catch your own dinner. The action doesn't stop: after dinner there is night kayaking, and toasting marshmallows around the fire. Midnight swim anyone? In the morning, you can snorkel, then spend the rest of the day on any of the bay's beautiful islands. Personally recommended by Vroomsters -- 'One of the best things we've done anywhere in the world.'

Bay of Islands Parasail

Address: Marsden Road, Paihia, 0200

Bay of Islands Parasail Tandem

The Bay of Islands looks even better from the air! Get 360-degree aerial views of The Bay of Islands, Russell and Paihia from a solo, tandem, or triple parasail flight. You'll be in safe hands with Bay of Islands Parasail who have a wealth of experience. You'll get a full safety briefing before your 1200-feet flight, and speaking of feet, you won't even get them wet! Aside from enjoying the stunning views, you may also see some playful dolphins leaping below you. This attraction is perfect for the whole family as kids age 5 to 14 can experience the thrill of parasailing too!

Makana Confections

Address:504 Kerikeri Rd, Kerikeri 0293

Keep your sweet tooth happy with all sorts of chocolate treats! Truffles, peanut brittle, chocolate dipped biscotti are just some of the treats Makana Confections create. They have two stores, one in Kerikeri, and another at the top of the South Island in Marlborough. The stores operate like a winery cellar-door facility, with tastings, and guidance from skilled staff. Visit the Makana Confection Factory in your hire car and see how the products are made and even sample some of the finest chocolate in New Zealand. Don't forget to pick up some for the road.
