Before you arrive at the depot to collect your campervan in New Zealand, you'll need to remember a few important things. VroomVroomVroom has put together a quick checklist to help guide you through the pick up process. You'll need to make sure you have all the relevant important documents, and allow plenty of time.
Do you know how you are getting to the campervan rental depot? If you are arriving into an airport, the campervan rental company may offer a transfer service from the airport to their depot. You will need to do some research and book this in advance. Alternatively, make sure you plan your route if arriving by public transport to make sure you arrive on time. It's recommended that you arrive at least an hour early in order to fill in all the paperwork and learn more about your vehicle.
You'll need to bring your driver's licence to the depot with you, along with a valid credit card to cover the security bond. If your licence is not in English, you may also need an International Driving Permit. If travelling from overseas, make sure you let your bank know you will be using your credit card in New Zealand so you do not have any issues with payment at the depot.
As you fill in the paperwork, make sure you also read the terms and conditions of your rental so you know if there are any driving restrictions that apply to your vehicle. If you are unsure of anything, feel free to ask staff.
Staff will walk you through the process of travelling via campervan, and point out any important vehicle features that you need to be aware of. Make sure you ask any questions if you're unsure of how the vehicle operates.
