Thrifty Terms & Conditions

The below T&Cs (including prices and taxes) are provided by Thrifty and may change without notice to VroomVroomVroom.

This quote includes:

• G.S.T, Airport taxes and surcharges if applicable
• Stamp duty
• Basic insurance cover (ADE) for cars (not specialty cars, 4WD's, people movers, luxury models) subject to an Accident Damage Excess of $3375 NZD for standard vehicles - $3712 NZD for specialty vehicles. Accident Excess Reduction cover needs to be purchased separately upon arrival.
• Signified kilometre amount (generally unlimited)
• Vehicle Registration
• One way fees if applicable

This quote will not include:

• A credit card surcharge of 1.5% will be applied to any credit card transaction on all reservations made on and after 15 February 2010. The credit card or debit card must be in the name of the authorised renter.
• Accident Excess Reduction can be purchased at the time of arrival for $28.13NZD per day plus GST. Accident Excess Reduction reduces the excess to **$562.50 for all vehicle classes. To further reduce the Excess Total Protection Package (TPP) is available for $33.75 per day. Total Protection Package reduces **$0 for all vehicle classes. Please contact Thrifty for further insurance information as we can not quote for 'on the day' optional extras
• Child Seats or booster seats (can be purchased after confirmation for $35NZD plus GST per rental)
• An age surcharge for renters in between the ages of 21 and 25.
• GPS $11.25/day*. GPS are subject to availability and can not be guaranteed.
• Extra kilometres (if your rental is limited)
• Any extras signed up for upon arrival, eg. vehicle snow equipment.
• Interisland booking ferry terminal charge at 2nd and subsequent changeover of $39.38

* All extra add-ons will attract additional percentage taxes and surcharges.

Modifying Booking

Modifying your booking may change the original quoted price.

Rental Period

Rates are based on a minimum rental period of one day (24-hours from the time the rental starts). At Thrifty we allow a 59-minute grace period, after which an extra hour is charged at one fifth the daily rate, to a maximum of four hours after which a full day will be charged.

Renter Qualification

• The minimum rental age is 21 years. There is no maximum age. All drivers must hold a valid full driving licence, which has been held for at least one year.
• A current international driving licence or accurate English translation must accompany driving licences issued in a language other than English.
• There is no charge for additional drivers. Minimum rental age and other requirements for additional drivers will be the same as for the renter. Additional drivers must be listed on the rental agreement.

Restricted Roads

• North Island: Ninety-Mile Beach (Northland)
• South Island: Skippers Canyon Road (Queenstown)
• Driving on these roads constitutes a breach of the rental agreement and the renter would be fully liable for any damage to the Thrifty vehicle or Third party property occurring as a result.

Airport/Ferry Terminal Service Charges

Rentals initiated by or commencing from airports or Inter islander ferry terminal locations are subject to a nominal Airport/Ferry Service Charge (AFSC).

Fuel

Fuel is not included in our rates. Each vehicle is supplied with a full tank of fuel, which is refilled at the renter's expense on return. If the vehicle is not returned with a full tank, the renter will be charged for the fuel required to refill the tank at applicable Thrifty rates at the time.

Payment

Thrifty welcomes payment by credit cards: Visa, Mastercard, American Express. Renters will be required to leave credit card details as a deposit

Insurance

Comprehensive Motor Vehicle Insurance including third party and public liability is included in our rates. An accident damage excess (ADE) does apply.

Accident Damage Excess (ADE)

ADE applies to all rentals. This excess may be reduced (at the renter’s option) at the time of rental by purchasing Accident Excess Reduction (AER) or Glass Cover Insurance (GCI). The rates of ADE are subject to change without notice, but current rates (including GST) range from $2925 - $3375.

Important:
The renter will be fully liable for any damage to the Thrifty vehicle and any third party property, if the terms and conditions of the rental agreement are breached.

Accident Excess Reduction (AER)

Purchase of AER at time of hire reduces the ADE to between $270 - $337.50.

Glass Cover Insurance (GCI)

The excess on glass only (windscreens, windows, headlights) may be reduced (at the renter’s option) to NIL at the time of rental by purchasing GCI. GCI may be purchased alone or in conjunction with AER above. Some AER options may include GCI.

Renter Qualification

The minimum rental age is 21 years. There is no maximum rental age. All intending drivers must present a valid full national driving license, which has been held for at least one year. A current International Driving License must accompany driving licenses issued in a language other than English.

There is no extra charge for additional drivers. Minimum rental age and other requirements for additional drivers will be the same as for the renter. Additional non employee authorized drivers must be notified to Thrifty and listed on the rental agreement.

Inter Island Travel

The Thrifty 'Multi-Hire' has been developed for customers who have two or more consecutive hires as part of the same journey. You benefit from a lower daily rental rate because you pay for the combined total of rental days as if it were one rental.

For example, if someone was flying into Auckland and planned to rent a car for 7 days in the North Island followed by 10 days in the South Island, they will pay a rate equivalent to one 17-day *continuous rental.

Conditions are as follows:

• Island Hopper rentals are only available on pre-booked reservations
• entals must be for a minimum of 3 days in each island.
• Second or subsequent vehicles must be picked up within 24 hours of finalising the first or previous rental.
• Reservations for second or subsequent vehicles must be re-confirmed at least 48 hours prior to collection, by phoning Thrifty Reservations on 0800 73 70 70.
• For reasons of staff safety, we will meet pre-booked clients arriving off scheduled ferry services between the hours of 0800 (8.00am) and 1800 (6.00pm) only.
• Where sundry rental equipment (such as baby seats, snow chains etc.) is requested, charges for these items are applied on a 'per rental' basis, rather than a 'per day' basis. Accordingly, a separate charge will apply for each rental where such items are required.
• Interisland booking ferry terminal charge at 2nd and subsequent changeover of $39.38

NB: There are occasions where some clients wish to retain the use of one vehicle for a two-island visit. This is permissible, but the client must pay for any inter-island transportation costs for the vehicle. The vehicle must be returned to a Thrifty location within the same island that the rental commenced or additional charges will apply.
