Hertz Terms & Conditions

The below T&Cs (including prices and taxes) are provided by Hertz and may change without notice to Vroom Vroom Vroom.

This quote includes:

• G.S.T, Airport taxes and surcharges if applicable,
• Stamp duty,
• Basic insurance cover (LDW) for cars with an excess of $2812-50 ($3375 for specialty cars, 4WD's or people movers) Excess reduction insurance can be purchased separately upon arrival.
• Signified kilometre amount (generally unlimited)
• Vehicle Registration,
• One way fees if applicable,
• All vehicle fees related to the booking, eg. Vehicle drop fees, premium location fees, corporate location fees wherever applicable.

This quote will not include:

• Excess reduction and other protection plans which can be purchased for $28.12 per day to lower excess to $nil ($33.75 for specialty fleet). Please contact Hertz for further insurance information specialty cars differ in excess.
• Child Seats or booster seats (can be purchased after confirmation for $35.00 plus GST per rental. Price will increase on 1 April 2009 to $40 plus GST
• An age surcharge for renters in between the ages of 21 and 25. Please note that for renters under age 25 an additional daily age differential charge may apply. Fee can vary at locations.
• Extra kilometres travelled when applicable (generally unlimited, additional km rate for standard fleet @ 0.20c per additional km)
• Any extras signed up for upon arrival, eg. snow equipment or inter island travel fees, GPS
• Please include Ferry Terminal fee of NZD $35-00 + GST for second rental on Inter Island reservation.

** All extra add-ons will attract additional percentage taxes and surcharges.

Modifying Booking

Modifying your booking may change the original quoted price.

Method of Payment

At the time of rental, an authorisation is obtained on your credit card based on the estimated rental charges. You must have enough credit on your card to cover all charges.

Acceptable credit/charge cards: American Express / Mastercard / Diners Club / Visa

You may opt to pay with a debit card or cash* upon return of rental vehicle, if desired.

Age

The minimum rental age is 21 years for the economy manual, compact manual, compact auto, intermediate auto, full size auto, premium wagon, 4WD and luxury 8 seat car groups.

The minimum rental age is 25 years for the premium 4WD. Renters must be over 25 years of age and have held their full licence for at least 12 months.

Please note that for renters under age 25 an additional daily age differential charge may apply. Additional fees or surcharges may be applied at time of rental.

The minimum rental age and other requirements for additional drivers will be the same as for the renter.

Additional Drivers

Persons other than the renter who wish to drive must present their licence at any Hertz office, in the presence of the renter any time during the rental. They must sign an “Additional Driver” form to be attached to the Rental Agreement.

There is no charge for Additional Drivers.

Driver's Licence

At time of rental, the renter must present a full valid driver’s licence issued from their country of residence that has been held for a minimum of one year. If the licence is not in English, then an International Driver’s Licence is also required.

New Zealand law requires you to carry your driver’s licence with you whenever you are driving.

Renters from China can use a China Notaries Certificate (CNC) which is used in place of an International Driving Permit; however their original Chinese licence MUST accompany the driver as well as the CNC.

Travelling Inter-Island

• A regular inter-island ferry service connects the North and South Islands. Hertz has locations on the main ferry wharf at both Wellington & Picton.
• The first rental must be a minimum of 3 days.
• The second rental must start within 5 hours of the first rental finishing.
• Please include Ferry Terminal fee of NZD $35-00 + GST for second island.
• Hertz vehicles do not cross between the North and South Island. You will need to leave your vehicle at Hertz Picton or Wellington ferry location and collect another vehicle once you have crossed the Cook Strait. This will eliminate the cost of ferrying your vehicle since you do not need to worry about transporting it between the Islands.
• Only one Hertz booking is required for standard vehicles (economy manual, compact manual, compact auto, intermediate auto, full size auto car and premium wagon AWD* car classes) if you plan to travel between islands. You must advise the Hertz at least 48 hours before you cross the Cook Strait. Hertz staff will remind you of the procedures you should follow at that time. Unfortunately if we are not advised, we cannot guarantee a vehicle will be available. A substantial fee applies to rentals where a vehicle is returned on a different island to where it was collected.
• For special vehicle classes (premium wagon AWD, midsize 4WD, luxury 8 seat, luxury sedan and premium 4WD car classes), one booking per island must be made. If you are trying to make one booking to cover both islands for a special vehicle class, you will get an error message saying 'no rate applies' or 'vehicle not available'. In this instance you will need to make separate bookings per island.

Refueling Options

Hertz provide you with a full tank of fuel at time of rental and options are available for replacing the fuel you use.

Options include:

Fuel Purchase Option (FPO)

FPO allows you to purchase a full tank of fuel at a discounted rate at commencement of the rental. You are not required to return the vehicle with a full tank of fuel, thus saving time as well as money. Any unused fuel is Non-Refundable.

Re-fuelling Service Option (FCL)

A refueling service is offered for your convenience when you choose to return the vehicle with less than a full tank of fuel. Hertz will refill the vehicle for you and the refueling service charge will be added to the cost of the rental. This option is available at all Hertz locations, however fuel charges may vary by location.

Renter Refills Vehicle

You may choose to personally refill the tank at a petrol/fuel station, however this must be done immediately prior to return.

All Hertz vehicles run on 91 octane unleaded petrol.

Rental Requirements and Restrictions

You must meet the minimum age restrictions, present a valid driver’s licence and possess an acceptable credit/charge card in your name.

Cars are driven on the left side of the road.

Hertz vehicles cannot cross between the North and South Island.

You will need to leave your vehicle at Hertz Picton or Wellington ferry location and collect another vehicle once you have crossed the Cook Strait. For further information refer to Traveling Inter-island section.

NeverLost units can be taken one-way.

Multi Island rentals are NOT available with these units. NeverLost equipment must NOT be taken across the Cook Strait. The renter must return the NeverLost® equipment to the Hertz counter or leave it in the glove box of the first vehicle and pick up another unit with their second vehicle after they have crossed the Cook Strait.

If the renter takes the NeverLost® Equipment across the Cook Strait $50 plus GST relocation fee will be charged.

Cost per Day: NZD$15 + GST = NZD$16.88 inclusive GST - Capped at 7 days

Ski Racks/Snowboards
Available on all vehicles except Groups B (Economy Sedan/Hatch) and K (Passenger Van)

Cost per Day: NZD $15 + GST = NZD $16.88 inclusive GST - Capped at 7 days
Maximum Charge: NZD $105 + GST = NZD $118.13 inclusive GST
