GO Rentals Terms & Conditions - Summary of Key Points

This summary has been prepared by VroomVroomVroom.co.nz as a guideline to alert you to the key inclusions, exclusions, requirements and other terms and conditions which may apply when renting from this supplier. Customers will be required to accept GO Rentals terms​when collecting the vehicle.

Rates

GO offers Dynamic rental rates that fluctuate as retail rates are adjusted.

Rental rates include:

  • GO Basic insurance cover (applicable bond/excess applies)
  • Unlimited kilometres
  • 24hr Automobile Association roadside assistance
  • Free travel information
  • Airport transfers upon pick up and drop off
  • Airport or city hotel transfers upon pick up, subject to availability, must be pre-arranged with GO Rentals 14 days prior pick-up
  • 15% GST (goods and service tax)
  • Credit card fees
  • Road user charges
  • Two waiver options to reduce or eliminate the excess

Rental duration

Calculating the Rates

Rates are calculated on a 24 hour period. However, on the day of drop off, an allowance of up to 4 hours is permitted before an additional day is charged. The following example illustrates the applicable charges.

Example: A vehicle is picked up on 1 September and dropped off on 8 September.

​Where a hire includes two different rate periods each day of the hire will be charged for at the rate applicable for that day.​

Multiple Hires

Where there are multiple hires for the same hirer each hire is to be calculated separately and cannot be combined.

What is not included in the rates

  • Fuel – all vehicles are supplied with a full tank of fuel at the commencement of the hire and must be returned with a full tank at the end of the hire.
  • Ferry charges if the vehicle is taken between the North and South Islands.

Extra fees

The following fees will be added where applicable:

  • Extra drivers one off fee $10 per driver
  • One way fees (as detailed in table below)

*On occasion, a $50 one-way fee may apply from the Auckland City - Auckland Airport branch depending on availability. There is no one-way fee from the Auckland Airport – Auckland City Branch.

Accessories

The following accessories are available for hire:

  • GPS device $8 per day
  • Baby capsule $45 per hire - suitable for children 0 - 6 months old
  • Child seat $45 per hire - suitable for children 6 month - 3 years old
  • Booster seat $45 per hire - suitable for children 4 - 8 years old
  • Snow chains $45 per hire
  • Roof racks $50 per hire
  • Ski racks $50 per hire

Please note: Roof racks are available on GO Compact, GO Touring, GO SUV, GO Intermediate 4 x 4 and GO Large 4 x 4. The hirer will need to bring bungy cords to secure luggage.

WiFi Device

  • Campable WiFi Connect uses the Netgear Aircard 8005 to provide WiFi on your client’s journey with 200MB included daily.
  • Available NZ wide: They can connect to WiFi anywhere in New Zealand within Spark’s 3G or 4G networks.
  • WiFi anywhere: Clients can carry their hotspot wherever you go to stay connected.
  • Multi Connect: They can add up to 15 devices to the hotspot at once.

Cost

  • NZ$9.00 per day with FREE 200MB per day
  • Extra data is available at any time during the clients travel to meet their needs. This lasts for 30 days.
  • 500MB for NZ$10.00
  • 1GB for NZ$19.00
  • 3GB for NZ$49.00

Getting to the GO Branch

Vehicles must be picked up and/or dropped off at a GO Rentals branch location and transfers are available as follows:

Airport Transfers

Pick Up: Airport shuttle transfers are available from the International or Domestic terminal to the GO Rentals Airport branch*. These are to be requested on arrival by using the appropriate branch freephone number.

*In Dunedin we offer an in terminal check in desk. This is conveniently located in the Car Rental Building immediately adjacent to the arrival terminal.

Drop Off: Transfers are provided to the Airport on drop off from all Airport branches. Please note there are no transfers available on Pick Up or Drop Off between the Airport and City branches in Auckland.

Airport and City Hotels

Pick Up: FREE delivery of the vehicle to most Auckland central city hotels is available from the Auckland City – Central branch between 08.30 to 14.30 and must be prearranged with GO Rentals at least 14 days prior to pick up. Where GO cannot deliver to the hotel transfers to the Auckland City – Central branch may be available. Please advise client’s hotel at time of booking and GO will confirm the delivery or transfer procedure.

All other depot locations offer FREE transfers from city or airport hotels to the depot between 09.00 and 14.30 and must be prearranged with GO Rentals at least 14 days prior to pick up.

Drop Off: No transfers are available to airport or city hotels on drop off. Taxis can be arranged at the hirer’s expense or we can arrange for you to leave your vehicle at the hotel and collect it the next day free of charge.

Picking Up Outside of Normal Branch Opening Hours

GO Rentals offer a convenient airport pick up service for those arriving off a flight outside of normal branch opening hours in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. No after-hour fees apply to use this service. If arriving outside of normal branch opening hours a GO Fast Online Check In must be completed prior to arrival. This will enable GO Rentals to leave the vehicle in a specified location. The GO Fast Online Check In link is on the GO Rentals confirmation email and can also be accessed by visiting: https://www.gorentals.co.nz/online-checkin-access/​​ If the GO Fast Online Check In link cannot be accessed then a phone call or email to GO Rentals with the clients full personal details including phone number, address, email, driver’s license (name, date of birth, license number, expiry date and country of issue) and credit card information will suffice.

GO Rentals cannot arrange to have a vehicle available for pick up after hours without this information.

Drivers License and Minimum Age

The minimum age to drive a GO Rentals vehicle is 21 years and there is no maximum age.

Driving in New Zealand is only permitted if a current valid driver licence in English is held. Any restrictions or conditions on the licence will continue to apply in New Zealand. If the licence isn’t in English, the driver must obtain an International Driving Permit or an approved translation of their licence. They must also carry the original driver licence when driving in New Zealand on an International Driving Permit.

Please note that any restrictions or conditions on the licence will continue to apply in New Zealand. If the restriction is in regards to the number of passengers that the driver can carry, the closest New Zealand category equivalent will apply. For example, if driving on a French licence that has a maximum capacity of 8 passengers including the driver – GO rentals are able to hire this driver a 10 or 12 seater van if required. Refer to your GO Rentals representative for details affecting other license holders.

Insurance

The hirer and any driver authorised to driver the vehicle are indemnified to the extent of NZ$10,000,000 in respect of any liability he or she might have for damage to any property (including injury to any animal) belonging to any person and arising out of the use of the vehicle.

The indemnity does not apply to any property being transported in the vehicle at the time of accident. Please note that the GO Basic insurance option is included in the daily rental rate.

All GO Standard rates include Basic insurance with an excess to apply. The following tables outline the options available to reduce the excess:

Insurance for the GO Trailer is covered under the same Insurance as the GO 10 seater and GO 12 seater when hired together. The GO Trailer cannot be hired separately.

Bond

With our GO BASIC Insurance option, the credit card will be authorised for the amount of the excess at the time of rental pick up. (Go Basic comes with a $3,500 excess and a $3,500 bond is required)​ The bond is fully refundable provided the vehicle is returned on time to the correct location, undamaged, with a clean interior, with a full fuel tank and a clean interior. If the vehicle is damaged during the Hire Term, the full excess is payable by the Hirer.

Credit Cards

The hirer must provide a valid credit card for security and bond as part of the rental agreement. Accepted credit cards are Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Diners. Note that a debit card is not considered a credit card and cannot be used as a form of bond.

Cancellation Policy

The cancellation fees that apply to reservations are as follows:

  • If cancelled 14 days prior to pick-up, no fee
  • If cancelled from 13 to 4 days prior to pick-up, 20% of nett rental
  • If cancelled from 2 to 3 days prior to pick-up, 50% of nett rental
  • If cancelled within 24 hours of pick up or a no-show, 100% of nett rental
  • If vehicle is returned early, there will be no refund available

Travel Restrictions

Cars can only be driven on sealed/bitumen or well-maintained roads. No vehicle is to be driven on the following roads: Ball Hutt Road (Mt Cook), Skippers Road (Queenstown), Ninety Mile Beach (northland), Te Paki Stream Bed, the road to Macetown in the Queenstown Area or any unformed road or any track or thoroughfare including grave roads that is not officially designated a road including any beach.

On Road Assistance

24 hour roadside assistance is provided to all Hirers in all locations for any breakdown. Hirers are provided with an emergency freephone number to contact and a specialist will meet the Hirer at the vehicles location. Please note that this policy is free for mechanical breakdowns only. All other call outs will be subject to the relevant AA charges. ($90-$165 depending on the geographical location).

Smoking and Animal Restrictions

Smoking in GO Rental vehicles is strictly prohibited and offenders will be charged a minimum vehicle grooming fee of NZ$200. Animals are also not permitted in any GO Rentals vehicle (excluding disability assist dogs). The same grooming fee of NZ$200 will apply if the vehicle is returned in an excessively dirty condition that requires extra cleaning or deodorising.

Agent Non-Payment

In the case where pre-payment is required and this has not been made, the agent agrees to their client being liable for the full costs to GO Rentals.

Booking Amendments

  • Changes to the drop off rental location after the rental has commenced must be approved by GO Rentals. If approved a minimum charge of NZ$500 may apply.
  • Rental extensions whilst on hire must be approved by GO Rentals and a minimum of 72 hours notice is required and are subject to availability which may be difficult during peak seasons. The extra cost must be paid to GO Rentals on confirmation of the rental
  • Unauthorised extensions may incur a fee of NZ$500 in addition to the current daily rental rate.

Change of Vehicle

In the unlikely event that the reserved vehicle is not available GO Rentals reserve the right to substitute a comparably higher standard of vehicle at no extra cost to the client. This shall not constitute a breach of contract and does not entitle the Hirer to any form of refund.

Toll Notices and Infringement Fees

The Hirer is liable for all penalties, fees and fines incurred during the hire term relating to speeding, traffic, toll and/or parking offences. In the event that GO Rentals receives an Unpaid Toll Notice relating to the period the vehicle was on hire, GO Rentals will pay the outstanding toll fees on behalf of the hirer and an administration fee of NZ$25 will be charged per notice in addition to the toll fees.

In the event that GO Rentals receives an infringement notice of a speeding, parking, freedom camping or other traffic infringement relating to the period the vehicle was on hire, GO Rentals will notify and provide the hirer details of the infringement notice as soon as is practical.

GO Rentals will also provide the necessary information to the relevant authority for such notices to be directed to the hirer. An administration fee of NZ$50 will be charged to the hirer for transfer of liability of the notice to the hirer.

Fuel

All vehicles are provided with a full tank of fuel. A NZ$25 refuelling fee plus the cost of fuel will be charged if the fuel tank is not full upon return. A NZ$3.00 variance (approximately 10kms) is allowed.

Vehicle Category Downgrade/Upgrade

Should the hirer decide to take a lesser category vehicle than booked within 14 days of pick up or during the rental, no refund will be paid. In the case of an upgrade the rate difference is payable.

Mechanical Repairs

The hirer shall not arrange or undertake any repairs without prior authorisation from GO Rentals except to salvage the vehicle to prevent further damage to the vehicle or to other property. If the hirer has had to pay to salvage the vehicle, the hirer must inform GO Rentals within a maximum 12 hour period or forfeit the right to seek reimbursement of the salvage costs.

Responsibilities of the Hirer

The hirer is fully liable for any damage to the GO Rentals vehicle and third party vehicle or property if the terms of the rental contract are breached.

Commercial Use of GO Rentals Vehicles

The vehicles listed on pages 6 and 7 of the GO Guide are not able to be used for commercial purposes (used for payment or reward) as they are not Passenger Service Vehicle [PSV] compliant.

The only vehicle available for commercial use is GO Rentals 12 Seater PSV which is not currently included in this GO Guide. These new vehicles have the required Certificate of Loading [CoL] and feature large luggage holds with a security cage, comfortable seating and a public address [PA] system for commentary by the driver/guide.

The use of any non-compliant GO Rentals vehicle for commercial purposes will leave the hiring company and/ or Driver/Guide fully responsible for any charges or fines incurred, and all insurance will be voided.

  • The Agent/Tour Operator/Hirer must provide GO Rentals with a copy of their Transport Service Licence [TSL] authorising them to run a passenger service. A copy of this licence must also be presented on pick up.
  • The Agent/Tour Operator/Hirer making the booking must inform GO Rentals that the hire is to be used for commercial purposes.
  • The Driver/Guide must have a Passenger [P] endorsed licence and a copy of this must be sent to GO Rentals at the time of booking or at least 14 days prior to pick up.
  • The Agent/Tour Operator/Hirer must only operate the vehicle for the number of passengers stipulated on the “P” licence.
  • The Agent/Tour Operator/Hirer/Driver/Guide must adhere to GO Rentals normal terms of use (http://www.gorentals.co.nz/travel-help/terms/)

Vehicle Return

Should the hirer decide to voluntarily return the vehicle, including car keys or accessories, prior to the expiry of the hire term, the hirer will not be entitled to a refund.

Interisland Ferry

Vehicles must be taken on the ferry between the North and South Islands and vice versa.

General

In the event of any accident or damage, the applicable insurance excess must be paid by the Hirer. The Hirer will not have to pay the applicable insurance excess if acting reasonably, we agree that the hirer was not at fault and the Hirer:

  1. Completes the accident paperwork required and
  2. Supplies GO Rentals the name and contact details of any third party the Hirer believes is at fault along with the insurer details for that third party and GO Rentals reasonably believes that the third party insurer will agree to pay GO Rentals for the damage.

If the Vehicle is rendered unfit to drive after an accident and GO Rentals is satisfied that the Hirer was not at fault, GO Rentals will arrange for the repair or replacement of the vehicle as soon as practicable. (Any replacement vehicle will be available for pick-up from a GO Rentals branch) If the Hirer was at fault, or if the fault cannot be determined at that time, GO Rentals will not be obliged to refund any of the unused Hire Term (including any insurance products purchased) and the repair or provision of a replacement vehicle shall be at GO Rentals’ sole discretion. GO Rentals reserves the right to decline to offer the GO Assured or GO Peace of Mind product for any replacement vehicle.

GO Rentals is not responsible for the costs of transporting any Hirer or other person from the accident location to any other place. GO Rentals may cancel the rental agreement (whether before or after vehicle pick up) and immediately repossess the vehicle in any of the following circumstances:

  1. The Hirer is in breach of any material term of the Rental Agreement;
  2. The Hirer has obtained the vehicle through fraud or misrepresentation;
  3. The vehicle appears to be abandoned;
  4. The vehicle is not returned on the agreed returned date;
  5. The Vehicle is damaged or GO Rentals considers on reasonable grounds that the vehicle is at risk of being damage; or
  6. GO Rentals or an enforcement officer considers on reasonable grounds that the Hirers driving (or the driving of any Authorised Driver) is likely to pose a real danger to themselves and/or any other person.

The Hirer will be liable to pay all reasonable costs incurred by GO Rentals in connection with repossessing the vehicle. If GO Rentals cancels this Rental Agreement then GO Rentals may disclose the Hirers personal information (and that of any authorised driver) to other relevant rental vehicle operators for the purpose of promoting safe driving in New Zealand.

GO Rentals may use a GPS device or other electronic tools (GPS Tracking) to enable the geographical location of the Vehicle to be tracked or located. GO Rentals may use such information to locate stolen vehicles and may disclose information to the relevant local authorities.
