Ezi accepts AMEX, Mastercard, and Visa credit cards or a debit card to secure the hire car Rental Agreement. The card used must show the main driver’s name, signature, card number, and the applicable logo.
Ezi does not accept cash, prepaid and reloadable debit cards, gift cards, or travel cards as a form of payment for either the rental cost or the security bond.
Ezi may levy an additional charge for any of the following (though not limited to) cases:
One way hires.
Additional drivers cost $5 per driver per day for the duration of the rental.
Ski racks $15 per day, capped at $105.
Snow chains $15 per day, capped at $105.
Ezi charges $5 per day per additional driver for the duration of the rental. Note that any additional nominated driver, as with the primary driver, must have a full drivers licence and be present when the vehicle is collected at the beginning of the rental period.
The minimum age for renting a hire car with Ezi is 20 years old.
Ezi allows the carriage of disability assist dogs for customers. Any other pets or animals are not permitted in Ezi vehicles.
As with all rentals, additional cleaning fees may be charged in the event the interior of the vehicle requires unusual or unexpected vacuuming, sanitation or shampooing.
There is no cancellation fee for Ezi rentals.
Please order a child seat at the time of your reservation, stating the age of your child so the correct type of child seat can be booked. Ezi does not supple baby capsules for infants under the age of six months.
Ezi charges a credit card transaction fee of 2.2% for Mastercard and Visa and 4% for AMEX. This surcharge includes GST. A minimum bond of $400 (the bond amount may vary according to the vehicle type) is required as security on all Mastercard and Visa debit card payments. All holds on debit cards are released upon the return of the rental car if no damage or fees are owing on the hire.
In the unfortunate event of an accident:
You must record the details of all other vehicles involved and the name, address, and contact number of each driver.
You must not arrange any recovery or repair to the vehicle.
You must advise Ezi as soon as possible of the accident and any damage.
Ezi accepts Digital Drivers Licences (DDLs), however, if you are visiting from a country or state that operates under a DDL, Ezi also requires your physical licence. Photocopies or photographs of your DDL are not accepted.
Driving in snow is permitted on the condition that appropriate equipment (such as snow chains) are used, or, it is otherwise safe and responsible to do so. Both ski racks and snow chains can be hired from Ezi’s South Island rental car depots.
To rent a hire car from Ezi, you must have a current and valid full driver licence. If your licence is not in English, you must provide a valid translation along with your original licence.
You must not use the vehicle, or allow it to be used:
outside of your authority;
by any person if that person is under the influence of alcohol or any drug, including a prescribed medicine;
in a race, a speed test, a rally or any other type of contest;
contrary to any New Zealand law or bylaw;
to transport more than the number of passengers for which the vehicle is certified, or to carry a larger load than that which the vehicle is authorised to carry;
by any person who does not hold a current driver’s licence appropriate for the vehicle;
for any form of hire or reward;
to push or tow any other vehicle, unless the vehicle has a towbar in which case you have permission to tow.
Ezi vehicles must not be operated off-road, on any beach (including Ninety Mile Beach, Northland), any non-commercial ski field road, Tasman Valley Road beyond the picnic area near Aoraki/Mt Cook, any roads north of Colville on the Coromandel Peninsula, or Skippers Canyon Road, Queenstown.
Smoking is not permitted in an Ezi vehicle. If the vehicle is returned smelling of cigarette / cigar smoke you will be liable for the full cost of cleaning.
Electric vehicles can be rented through the Auckland Airport Ezi depot. There is no need to return an electric vehicle fully charged, although a minimum charge of 10% is required. One-way EV rentals are not available through Ezi.
If you are unsure what fuel to use, please ask the station attendant or contact the Ezi rental location for advice. If you return your vehicle with an empty fuel tank, or with less fuel than it was supplied with you will be charged the cost of the petrol and an administration fee.
Ezi does not pay any infringement notices and it is the sole responsibility of the hirer to pay all fines in relation to infringement notices issued during the rental period.
In the event that Ezi receives an infringement notice for a speeding, parking, or other traffic infringement relating to the period the vehicle was on hire, Ezi charges the hirer a $45 administration fee, and transfer the liability to the driver.
You cannot drive in New Zealand if you only have an IDP — you must carry a current and valid overseas licence as well as the IDP. If your IDP is not in English you must have it translated.
Ezi allows for its rental cars to be taken across the Cook Strait using either the Interislander or Bluebridge ferry services.
Ezi does not impose a surcharge for senior drivers.
To pick up an Ezi rental car you need to satisfy both the licence and payment criteria:
You must present a valid and accepted credit card or bank issued Mastercard or Visa debit card (see Accepted Forms of Payment above).
You must meet the licence rules.
For security purposes, the owner of the credit card entered on the payment step when making a booking must be present to collect the vehicle and is required to sign the Rental Agreement.
If you are going to be late to pick up your car, please contact Ezi Reservations or the Ezi rental location as soon as possible.
Ezi rental vehicles are covered by standard motor vehicle insurance; however, an excess may be charged for any loss or damage incurred during the hire period, regardless of fault. The standard excess liability varies from $2,500 to $4,000 depending on the age and size of the vehicle.

This excess can be reduced through the purchase of excess reduction products which can reduce the liability to between $300 and $500, or waive it completely. Excess insurance is also available through third party providers such as Prosura.
Contact the Ezi rental location if you wish to extend your rental. In the event of an early return, no refund applies. All hires are counted in 24 hour durations.
All Ezi vehicles are covered by the Automobile Association (AA) 24 hour roadside assistance service for any vehicle related breakdowns. If the callout relates to something that is your fault (for example running out of fuel, losing the keys, locking the keys in the vehicle, or if a wheel needs to be changed due to a puncture), there is a callout fee of $140 +GST. For any mechanical breakdowns related to a vehicle fault, there is no charge.
The security deposit is a downpayment charged to your credit or debit card for a minimum of $400 (the amount can vary depending on the type of vehicle rented). Ezi will refund the bond amount upon return of the undamaged vehicle. Cash is not accepted for use as the bond.
Ezi does not pay any toll charges and it is the sole responsibility of the hirer to pay all toll charges incurred during the rental period.
In the event that Ezi receives an unpaid toll notice relating to the period the vehicle was on hire, Ezi will charge the hirer a $20 administration fee and pass the toll liability to the driver.
Ezi does not impose a surcharge for young drivers. Provided you are 20 years of age or older the same rates apply to you as to all over eligible drivers.
