The excess can range between NZD $4,600 and NZD $5,750 depending on the vehicle type, and will be specified in the Rental Agreement you accept upon pick up.
The excess is the most you’ll pay towards repairs for damages to the vehicle’s bodywork, where the repairs are covered by the rental provider’s basic insurance. The basic insurance often doesn’t cover damage to other parts of the vehicle (overhead, underbody, interior, windows, wheels) or other charges (misfuelling, loss of use, key loss, towing, roadside assistance, child seats, GPS devices, personal belongings); you may be charged full costs for repair or replacement expenses that are not covered by the basic insurance.
Protection options to reduce or reimburse the rental vehicle excess are available. These options include third-party Rental Vehicle Excess insurance, and excess reduction waivers sold by the rental provider at the rental counter.
The credit card surcharge is a percentage of the total transaction debited by Alamo.
Excluding the security deposit, the credit card surcharge is applicable to all rental charges, including damage liability charges and any optional items purchased.
A security deposit of NZD $200 will be requested by Alamo (by way of pre-authorisation) upon collection of the rental vehicle.
A pre-authorisation is not a charge but will limit the funds available on the nominated credit card. If no charges are processed by Alamo upon completion of the booking, pre-authorised funds will be released after a period of up to 28 days.
A valid credit card, or Visa or Mastercard debit card, must be presented upon collection of any Alamo rental vehicle. The credit card used must belong to the primary driver, who is required to be present upon collection of the vehicle.
Cash is not accepted for any payments, including the security deposit.
Union Pay Cards are accepted if they display a Visa or Mastercard logo.
Charges for options and coverage are to be settled upon commencement of the booking.
Upon commencement of the booking, renters are required to present a valid passport or national ID card, an unrestricted driver licence printed in English, and an accepted credit or debit card.
Alamo accepts current New Zealand, International, and overseas licences.
Overseas licences that are not easily identifiable as a driver licence must be accompanied by an international licence or English translation.
The renter’s valid driver licence must have been held for a minimum of 12 months prior to the commencement of the booking.
Where the renter holds a probationary licence, an additional Probationary Licence Fee of NZD $20 (excluding GST) will apply per day.
Drivers must be of or over the age of 21 to rent a vehicle with Alamo. No maximum age restrictions apply.
Drivers aged between 21 and 24 are restricted to vehicles ECMR, ECAR, CDAR, and IDAR only.
NZD $13 (excluding GST) per day applies to all drivers aged between 21 and 24 years old.
For Prestige vehicles, including classes of Luxury, Premium SUV, Special SUV, Premium Special, and Luxury SUV, a minimum driver age of 30 years old applies.
Local renters must provide two current forms of ID, each confirming the renter’s home address. Utility bills issued within two months of the booking commencement date are accepted. A full licence is required to drive any of Alamo's prestige vehicles.
Local fees and charges may be added to the total cost of the booking by Alamo upon collection of the rental vehicle.
Additional drivers can be added to the Rental Agreement upon collection of the rental vehicle.
Each additional driver is charged at a flat fee per day of NZD $5 (excluding GST).
All drivers must be listed on the Rental Agreement and meet Alamo's licence requirements as noted above.
Full to Full: The vehicle is supplied with a full tank of fuel; if the vehicle is not returned with a full tank of fuel, additional refuelling fees will apply.
Unlimited kilometres are included for the duration of the booking unless otherwise specified when booking.
