Most instagrammable places in New Zealand

Instagrammable destinations.

New Zealand is a scenic wonderland, so it's no surprise that millions of photos of the country have been shared on Instagram by people who have visited from all around the world. The hashtag #NewZealand has over ten million posts alone; there is certainly no shortage of breathtaking photographs of New Zealand.

Milford Sound

If you’re visiting New Zealand, #MilfordSound is definitely one of the most photogenic attractions. Situated at the most northern and accessible end of Fiordland National Park, Milford Sound's astonishing coastal scenery and majestic peaks are even more beautiful than they are in the photos. Check out this amazing shot from our friend Matthew Kngai.

Lake Takapō

Approximately three hours southwest of Christchurch / Ōtautahi in the Mackenzie Basin, the remarkable turquoise waters of Lake Takapō are best seen between April and September. #LakeTekapo is one of the best places in New Zealand, offering a multitude of Instagram photo opportunities. Kudos to our mate Dave of JonesAroundTheWorld for this gorgeous shot.

Sky Tower

Another prime place for photography is the Sky Tower. If you're visiting Auckland / Tāmaki Makaurau, a trip to the top of the tower is a must. Standing tall at 328 meters, the attraction offers views of key landmarks, volcanoes, and other historical spots in the greater Auckland / Tāmaki Makaurau area. This spectacular photo was taken by landscape photographer GhazanFarPhotography.

Hobbiton Movie Set

If you’re a fan of The Hobbit or Lord of the Rings, this is definitely the place for you. No holiday in New Zealand is complete without experiencing the magic of Hobbiton. Only 2.5 hours from Auckland / Tāmaki Makaurau via rental car, the legendary movie set offers some amazing Instagram opportunities. Thanks Derive for this enchanting shot!

Wānaka

Situated on the southern edge of Lake Wānaka, and just a short drive from Mount Aspiring National Park, the gorgeous Wānaka is certain to add some colour to your Instagram feed. Photographer Adam Marland perfectly captured it. Absolutely stunning!

Lake Harris

Another scenic place worth visiting is Lake Harris, a small alpine lake near the Harris Saddle on the Routeburn Track. Let's pause a moment to appreciate this shot taken by our good mate Adam Wilson.

Franz Josef Glacier

Located within Westland National Park, the Franz Josef Glacier is considered to be the gem of New Zealand's West Coast Glaciers, and remains one of the world's greatest sights. This glacier is the perfect subject for your next Instagram upload. Credit to Clare Bailey for this amazing, icy photo.

Treble Cone Ski Area

Love snowboarding? This jaw-dropping photo by Olympic snowboard slopestyle champion, Sage Kotsenburg, featuring professional snowboarder Zak Hale, was taken on one of the best slopes around. Just 30 minutes from the beautiful Wānaka, Treble Cone is known for its unrivalled views and is the largest ski area on New Zealand's South Island.

Special thanks to these awesome Instagrammers who have allowed us to use their amazing photos.
