Our Guide to Visiting Penrose

Penrose is an industrial area, but you have fantastic transport connections to nearby shopping and some of the best green spaces in Auckland. Here are some of our favourite experiences in and around Penrose:

One Tree Hill and Cornwall Park

Address: Green Lane West, Epsom, Auckland 1051

Head to see one of Auckland's most iconic destinations, a 182m volcanic peak (also known as Maungakiekie) which holds the grave of Sir John Logan Campbell, an Auckland leader in the 1800's who gifted the land for Cornwall Park. The mountain was the site of Maori fortifications, and evidence of the Pa remains today. The summit of One Tree Hill has spectacular views over the whole city isthmus.

Waiatarua Reserve

Address: 98 Abbotts Way, Meadowbank, Auckland 1050

Here you'll find wide open spaces, pockets of bush, native planting with walkways that surround New Zealand's largest urban wetland restoration project. The 49 acres of wetland operates as a stormwater treatment system for the surrounding suburbs, but despite its unappealing use, this wetland serves as a sanctuary for the birdlife and wetland plants creating a beautiful setting to enjoy.

Panmure Basin

Address: 106A Ireland Road, Mount Wellington, Auckland 1060

Not only does this location offer a visual oasis with walkways to enjoy, you can take a dip in these waters, go fishing or enjoy a picnic lunch on its shores. You may also head to the nearby Lagoon Leisure and Fitness facility to enjoy the indoor heated pool, sauna, spa, outdoor pool, hydroslide, dive boards and splash pad.

Sylvia Park Shopping Centre

Address: 286 Mount Wellington Highway, Mount Wellington, Auckland 1060

Mt Wellington is an adjoining suburb to Penrose, and is home to the large shopping centre of Sylvia Park. It is the ideal place to stock up on supplies for your road trip, with over 200 stores, including several supermarkets.
