Just north of Kaitia lies the popular tourist destination of 90 Mile Beach. The name of the beach is not reflective of the actual length, as the beach is actually only 55 miles. One story of why it was given the “90 Mile” tag is because of the missionaries who traveled the beach by horse. It was said that horses needed to be rested after 30 miles and given that the trip from one end of the beach to the other took three days, it was assumed that it was 90 Miles long.

Popular for Sand Boarding on the dunes at the northern end, tourists flock to the beach to have some sandy fun. Some of the dunes are recorded at 143 meters high so you can expect to hear screams of excitement as they hurtle down. The beach is made up of beautiful white sand and is popular for surfing and fishing.
