Car Hire in NZ During the Coronavirus Pandemic

As we move towards a world shaped around social distancing and contactless travel, please view the following updates on how our car hire partners in New Zealand are adjusting their processes to be in line with government advice. Please allow extra time when collecting a rental car as depots may restrict the amount of people allowed within the office space at once. Peace of mind and your safety when renting a car is our priority.

Aerodrive

We continue to sanitise every vehicle within our fleet prior to handing it over to a new customer. Together with our contactless trading protocol, our thorough handling process does reassure yours and our staffs safety which is our foremost concern.

Alamo

Vehicles rented from Alamo carry the Complete Clean Pledge - to follow best practices recommended by leading health authorities to ensure your safety. In addition to vacuuming and general wipe-down cleaning, between every rental, we use a disinfectant to sanitise key areas throughout the entire vehicle including:

​Key / key fob, Steering wheel, Steering column, Seat belts, Centre console, Door interiors, Door pockets, Interior door handles, Exterior door handles, Seat pockets / seat surfaces, Areas between seats & consoles, Areas between seats & doorjambs, Cupholders / compartments, Instrument panel, Accessory panel / touchscreen, Rearview mirror / side mirrors, Visors / visor mirrors, Dashboard / vents, Gear stick / gear shift, Trunk release.

We have also introduced updated process and safety procedures for our rental locations. Our employees working in branch locations are following best practices recommended by leading health authorities. This includes frequently sanitising touchable surfaces with disinfectant throughout the day.

While we have always strived to provide our customer with clean vehicles, we’re committed to provide the cleanest vehicles in the industry. This leads us into our second initiative of providing ‘Contactless’ rentals. Once a booking is made, Alamo will contact you via email and send you a pre-registration link. The link will allow you to provide your license details, pre-pay your rental and sign your rental agreement virtually. These initiatives help us avoid the spread of COVID-19 and still provide you with great efficient service.​

Avis and Budget

We are closely monitoring the information shared by the World Health Organisation concerning advice on how to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.

To help protect our staff and customers we are encouraging regular hand washing, and the use of hand sanitizer, where available.

We already had a very thorough cleaning processes in place to ensure our vehicles are always at the highest standard for customers.

Since the development of the Coronavirus around the world, we have further enhanced our cleaning protocols which includes thorough, multiple-point focus areas using industry-grade cleaning solution throughout the vehicle, paying particular attention to hard surfaces that people touch, such as steering wheels, door handles, key fobs and dashboards.

In addition, we are taking steps to ensure the welfare of our employees. This includes instructing employees who feel ill to stay home and consult their healthcare providers.

Europcar

For your protection and peace of mind, all of our vehicles must pass a rigorous cleaning check.

SAFETY

  • In our branches; all counter tops and equipment (such as tablets, pens and credit card machines) will be cleaned and sanitised after serving each customer. We’re also introducing Plexiglass windows with the intention of reducing contact.
  • In our vehicles; stringent cleaning with systematic use of disinfecting agents between each rental with specific attention given to the gear shift, glove box, seat belts, internal and external handles, the dashboard (including all dials and buttons), steering wheel and indicators, rear view mirror and keys. Child seats and GPS units will be cleaned to strict guidelines.

Go Rentals

Our app-based, contactless rental process continues to be the big focus for us, this will be our new normal. Our focus on technology and our dedication to branch and vehicle cleanliness will ensure that we continue to keep you, our staff and community safe.

Hertz

What is the Hertz process regarding keeping the recommended physical distancing at its branches?

In addition to all staff observing good hygiene practices and following the recommendations of the government to minimise the spread of COVID-19, we’ve implemented stricter measures around cleaning vehicles and locations:

These include:

  • Sanitising cleaning of cars
  • Locations are being sanitised regularly in customer pick up/return areas
  • All locations carry hand sanitisers for staff and customers
  • Counters are being cleaned regularly with wipes
  • Disposable pens are being used to sign paperwork
  • Safe distancing line markings have been put in place for customers
  • Staff practising safe distancing with a minimum of two metres between working stations
  • Staff are told to stay at home if feeling unwell

​How is Hertz cleaning vehicles to protect customers and employees?

Vehicles are cleaned and now sanitised after every rental and Hertz has put in place extra cleaning measures for the protection of our customers and staff.

In addition to our standard cleaning service, we are disinfecting the following hard surfaces:

  • Door handles (inside and out)
  • Steering wheel
  • Key area
  • Handbrake
  • Seat belt fittings/clips
  • Entire console area
  • Any hard surface areas previously cleaned will now be cleaned with disinfectant

Contact Centre
Our contact centre has been operating as normal over the last few weeks so they will continue to operate as normal.

Locations
Our location opening hours will change to reflect the changes in arriving flight times into the Airports so rest assured, where there is a commercial flight arrival we will meet it.

​Fleet
We are putting extra emphasis in disinfecting the main touch points of vehicles i.e. steering wheels, gear levers, radios, door handles etc.

Rental Process
One of the remaining restrictions under Level is still maintaining as minimal person to person contact as possible so with this in mind we will continue to operate physical distancing with customers and keeping as much of the transaction as contactless as possible.
