Europcar Terms & Conditions - Summary of Key Points

Please note: for Europcar New Zealand's full terms and conditions, a link will be provided upon booking submission.

Below is a summary of the most important information. If you have further questions, please contact our customer care team.

Rental Vehicle Excess

The excess can range between NZD $4,500 and NZD $7,500 depending on the vehicle type, and will be specified in the Rental Agreement you accept upon pick up.

The excess is the most you’ll pay towards repairs for damages to the vehicle’s bodywork, where the repairs are covered by the rental provider’s basic insurance. The basic insurance often doesn’t cover damage to other parts of the vehicle (overhead, underbody, interior, windows, wheels) or other charges (misfuelling, loss of use, key loss, towing, roadside assistance, child seats, GPS devices, personal belongings); you may be charged full costs for repair or replacement expenses that are not covered by the basic insurance.

Protection options to reduce or reimburse the rental vehicle excess are available. These options include third-party Rental Vehicle Excess insurance, and excess reduction waivers sold by the rental provider at the rental counter.

Credit Card Requirements for Prestige Vehicles

Driver and Licence Requirements

Upon commencement of the booking, renters are required to present a valid passport or national ID card, an unrestricted driver licence printed in English, and an accepted credit or debit card.

Drivers Licence & ID

Europcar’s licence requirements are as follows:

All drivers (primary and additional) are to present a physical driver licence showing a current residential address, allowing for operation of the type of vehicle being rented. Where a driver’s licence is not printed in English, an official translation of the driver licence issued by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators (NAATI) or a valid International Driving Permit, will need to be presented alongside the original driver licence. Digital driver licences are not accepted.

Licences that are printed in English, including those issued by the European Union, are accepted by Europcar and do not have to be accompanied by a translation.

Non-New Zealand citizens must also present their current passport upon collection of the rental vehicle.

All documents provided to Europcar must be original. Photocopies and scans are not accepted. International Driving Permits will not be accepted without the original driver licence issued by the renter’s country of origin.

Young Drivers (21 – 24 Years Old)

In addition to the requirements above, drivers must be of or over the age of 21 to rent a vehicle with Europcar, with drivers aged between 21 and 24 years old being subject to a Young Driver Surcharge of NZD $28.75 (including GST) per day plus vehicle class restrictions.

Additional Drivers

All additional drivers must be added to the Rental Agreement upon collection of the rental vehicle.

A charge of NZD $3.60 (including GST) per additional driver per day (capped at 14 days) will apply at a maximum charge of NZD $50.40 per driver.

Local fees and charges may be added to the total cost of the booking by Europcar upon collection of the rental vehicle.

Inter-Island Travel

Inter-island travel can be arranged through coordination with Europcar. The rental vehicle is to be returned at a ferry terminal belonging to the same Island the vehicle was collected from prior to the renter travelling between islands. A fresh vehicle can be provided to the renter when disembarking the ferry or plane.

If a vehicle is taken on the ferry, all repositioning fees will be passed onto the renter. This can be upwards of NZD $350 plus GST.

Only one security deposit will be required for a multi-island travel arrangement. Europcar will not require another security deposit for the second leg of the journey.

Ferry crossover dates and sailing times must be provided by the renter to Europcar. For renters flying between two islands, the arrival flight number is required to arrange the next rental vehicle. Please contact Europcar to advise of changeover schedules after confirmation of the booking, or email info@vroomvroomvroom.co.nz.

Fuel Policy

Full to Full: The vehicle is supplied with a full tank of fuel; if the vehicle is not returned with a full tank of fuel, additional refuelling fees will apply.

Unlimited kilometres are included for the duration of the booking unless otherwise specified when booking.
