Cambridge; The town of the trees

Cambridge, passionately nicknamed “The Town of the Trees”, is located on the North Island of New Zealand in the Waikato region, twenty- four kilometres south east of Hamilton, which is an hour and a half drive from Auckland. The closest airport is in Hamilton and without a train station, the best way to really experience the lush surroundings of Cambridge is by a car rental, but you wouldn’t want to see this historic town any other way.

Cambridge has a lot to offer for those who love the outdoors or enjoy spending time soaking up the culture, through antique shopping and art galleries. By visiting the town information centre you will find the number of ways you can see Cambridge from taking the Heritage trail walk, to checking out Lake Karapiro (left) or the Wakaito River.

Lake Karapiro is where you want to be for some of the best water activities on the North Island, it is 7.7sq kilometres of flat water, perfect for a whole range of sports with plenty of facilities available for the traveler. Lake Karapiro plays host to quite a few national and international aquatic events every year, including rowing, water ski and yacht races.

One area this picturesque town has reached stardom is in the Equine Industry with world famous thoroughbred horse stables and studs, they say the secret is in the rich green pastures that surround Cambridge. And if horses are your attraction you have The Cambridge Raceway and a number of stables you can visit.

No matter which way you are traveling the North Island of New Zealand; make sure Cambridge is a destination to experience good old country style with all the trimmings.
